To be absolutely, scientifically correct, spring is not when the sun returns, it's when we in the Northern Hemisphere turns toward the sun, and the best way to do that is a party.
AU's Vernal Equinox Party at the March meeting, on the 28th, will feature Ingemar Hulthage's popular game, Blingo, where contestants play a Bingo-like game by lining up the quotes on their cards. There will be prizes, information, and most of all, fun and friendship.

February General Meeting
richarmcnally.jpgGeneral Meeting
Sunday, February 28, 11:00 a.m.
A Visit With Robert Green Ingersoll

Atheists United longtime member Richard McNally will present his one-man show, A Visit With Robert Green Ingersoll, a biographical sketch of Ingersoll's life along with a sampling of the speeches and writings of "The Great Agnostic." Afterward Richard will welcome a discussion of Ingersoll and his works.
Ingersoll lived from 1833 to 1899 and was considered by many to be the greatest orator of his day. He was also a nationally prominent attorney who represented several defendants in the then-infamous "Star Route" political scandal, akin to the Watergate scandal of our day.

As an agnostic atheist, as he called himself, he devoted much of his adult life to combating the false, degrading, and inhuman teachings of organized religion.

He was a friend of the most prominent politicians, writers, entertainers and businessmen of his day. Andrew Carnegie and Mark Twain were among Ingersoll's friends and admirers who paid tribute to his memory upon his death.

Richard McNally has appeared in more than 50 stage productions during his years as an actor. In earlier days he was seen around Los Angeles in many featured roles including: The Music Man (Harold Hill), Bleacher Bums (Decker), Kvetch (George), The Fantasticks (Hucklebee), Hello Dolly (Horace Vandergelder), A Christmas Carol (Scrooge), Guys And Dolls (Nathan) and Mother Courage (Chaplain). In August 2008, Richard wrote, directed and appeared in a staged reading of The Scopes Monkey Trial for Atheists United. He has been an AU member for over 20 years and currently works as our administrative assistant.

Atheist Comedy by Keith Jensen

Comedian Keith Jensen doesn't do the standard stand-up shtick. He is co-founder of the CoExist? Comedy Tour (featuring a Hindu, a Christian, a Muslim, a Buddhist and an Atheist-Jensen) and has been a member of Science Comedy Tour.

His comedy for the rational isn't limited to his stand-up career. He's even completed a book, Atheist Survival Guide, A Humorous Guide to Getting By in a God-Fearing World, and his film Why Lie? I Need a Drink, spoofs the myth of the wealthy bum.

Sunday, December 27, 11:00 a.m.

Winter Solstice Celebration

This year the Winter Solstice party comes a little late, after the silliness of December 25. On December 27, we'll have some silliness of our own with the friendship, fun and friendly competition of Stuart Bechman's Freethought Trivia game.

As is our tradition, we'll have a special meal, and members are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy appropriate for quiet play for donation to Children's Hospital.
