Intelligence on the Lack of Intelligence of Intelligent Design

On April 25, Atheists United members and guests will hear famed philosopher, Professor Barbara Forrest, the co-author with Paul R. Gross of Creationism's Trojan Horse: The Wedge of Intelligent Design (Oxford University Press, 2004; 2007, 2nd ed.), which details the political and religious aims of the intelligent design creationist movement. She served as an expert witness for the plaintiffs in the first legal case involving intelligent design, Kitzmiller et al. v. Dover Area School District.

A member of the Board of Directors of the National Center for Science Education and the Board of Trustees of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, Dr. Forrest has appeared on Larry King Live, ABC's Nightline, and the BBC's Horizon documentary about the intelligent design creationism issue, "A War on Science." She was also featured on the PBS NOVA documentary about the Kitzmiller trial, "Judgment Day: Intelligent Design on Trial."

Her radio interviews include NPR's Science Friday with Ira Flatow and Culture Shocks with Rev. Barry Lynn of Americans United for Separation of Church and State. She is also the 2009 recipient of the American Humanist Association's Humanist Pioneer Award. In recognition of her work as an activist on behalf of science education and church/state separation, she is featured in an article entitled "Intelligent Defense" in the January 2010 issue of Church & State magazine, the publication of Americans United for Separation of Church and State.

She will speak on this and her current battle for reason, in a speech titled "Back to the Future: The Louisiana Science Education Act of 2008."

    Spring has...Tilted?
    Vernal Equinox Party

To be absolutely, scientifically correct, spring is not when the sun returns, it’s when we in the Northern Hemisphere turns toward the sun, and the best way to do that is a party.
AU’s Vernal Equinox Party at the March meeting, on the 28th, will feature Ingemar Hulthage’s popular game, Blingo, where contestants play a Bingo-like game by lining up the quotes on their cards. There will be prizes, information, and most of all, fun and friendship.
