Join Dave Doody, Space Flight Operations Engineer from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, for his presentation: How We Got to Saturn and What Cassini is Finding. 

Dave Doody, JPL’s Lead Engineer for real-time Mission Control operations of the Cassini-Huygens Mission, will discuss how we got to Saturn and what the robotic explorer has been discovering there. (more…)

Atheists United at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books

Once again Atheists United will sponsor a booth at the annual Los Angeles Times Festival of Books. The festival will be held on the University of Southern California campus on Saturday, April 12 and Sunday, April 13. You will find our booth # 162 on Trousdale Parkway about 2 blocks South of Jefferson.

The festival began in 1996 with a simple goal: to bring together the people who create books with the people who love to read them. The festival was an immediate success and has become the largest and most prestigious book festival in the country, attracting more than 140,000 book lovers each year. (more…)

Contradiction, a documentary by Jeremiah Camara in which he travels the country examining the paradox of Black neighborhoods saturated with churches in the midst of poverty, deprivation and despondency. Join us for our annual Winter Solstice party. We’re going to have great music, great food and a fun time!

Voices of Reason Winter Solstice
Voices of Reason, an a cappella / choral music group for atheists, humanists, and agnostics, will be performing several songs live.

Buck Bowen
Buck Bowen will also be performing a song called The Dragon In My Garage. It’s adapted from Carl Sagan’s book The Demon-Haunted World and illustrates the similarities between an unfalsifiable claim and, well, NO claim at all!

Peter Boghossian Manual Creating Atheists
Special guest Dr. Peter Boghossian will join us to talk about his new book A Manual for Creating Atheists. The book provides reader with the tools to talk people out of faith and into reason. Peter is a full time faculty member in the philosophy department at Portland State University. He has an extensive publication record across multiple domains of thought. Peter is also a national speaker for the Center for inquiry, Secular Student Alliance, and the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science.

Atheists United Blood Donation Drive

Donate blood at our quarterly donation drive during the meeting. Cedars-Sinai Medical Center will bring their mobile blood donation truck to collect blood for sick patients. On average, each pint of blood collected will help the life of 3 people. Donations will be accepted throughout the party, from 10:30am – 3:30pm.

Toy Drive Winter Solstice
Toy donation for kids. This is a great time to donate toys to our Toy Loan Center and AU Kids program. The Toy Loan Center is a place where anyone can borrow toys for free, like a library. It would also be great to have extra toys for the AU Kids program.
