It's time to nominate candidates for the 2009 Board of Atheists United! There are 9 seats to be filled: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and 5 at-large seats. Per our bylaws, additional seats are reserved for representatives of each of AU's affiliate groups outside of Los Angeles County. Board members serve for one-year terms*. Board members are responsible for overseeing AU's budget, policies, and programs; hiring and oversight of AU staff; and fund-raising. The board traditionally meets once per month with a large percentage of their work done on-line. Teleconferencing allows board members to participate without having to travel from home. To run for a seat on the board, you must have been a member of AU for a minimum of 6 months prior to the election. To run for the presidency, you must have served for at least one year on the board prior to running. Nominations must be made in writing and can be given directly to any current AU officer or sent by mail to the AU office, 4773 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, CA 90027 or by e-mail to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Nominations should include a statement of intent and an optional photo for inclusion on the AU website. Nominations will be accepted until the close of our September 28 general meeting in Hollywood. Candidates can self-nominate. If the number of nominees is less than or equal to the number of available seats, the candidates will be elected by affirmation at the end of the September AU general meeting in Hollywood. Otherwise, ballots will be mailed out to our members to vote in October. Get involved to build the future for atheism! Consider running for the board for 2009! *Note that a bylaws change has been proposed by the AU board to change the board term of office to staggered two-year terms, with one-half of this year's seats being elected to two years if passed. AU members will be voting on this bylaws change at the same time as they elect the 2009 board. |
