Los Angeles - The Los Angeles Freethought Federation (LAFF), an organization of groups in the Los Angeles area dedicated to reason, science, and the protection of the First Amendment, will be hosting two events the weekend of July 4th to commemorate the anniversary of our nation's founding as "Indivisible Day" - a day to celebrate the First Amendment and government neutrality towards religion to represent all US citizens irrespective of their religious beliefs.

On July 3rd, LAFF will host a lunchtime rally at the Ventura County Government Center, 800 S. Victoria Blvd. in Ventura, commemorating the holiday and emphasizing the importance of church-state separation in our government actions and policies, as embodied in the First Amendment of the Constitution. The rally will be held at the outdoor Greek Forum and last from 12 Noon to 1pm.

Several speakers will speak at the event, including Stuart Bechman, Chair of the Los Angeles Freethought Federation; Jodell Haws, president of the San Fernando Valley chapter of Americans United for the Separation of Church and State; Brian Parra, representative of the Ventura Atheists; and John Taylor, chair of the Los Angeles Brights.

Apple pies will also be passed out at the event, to make the point that church-state separation "is as American as Apple Pie."

On July 4th starting at 11AM, LAFF will be hosting an "Indivisible Day" booth at the Santa Monica pier, where apple pies with the pre-1954 Pledge of Allegiance will be passed out by Uncle Sams to the music of John Philip Sousa and other patriotic songs; and passers-by will be invited to take information, sign a petition to defend the First Amendment, and to enter a lottery to win $17.76 in commemoration of the day. The event will continue until 1,000 apple pies are passed out.

For more information, please contact Stuart Bechman, LAFF Chair,
(805) 405-3929.

The Los Angeles Freethought Federation is the southern California network of atheists, humanists, brights, naturalists, rationalists, secular Jews, skeptics,
and others who support a naturalist, scientific worldview and the freedom of religion and conscience embodied in the First Amendment of the US
Constitution.
