Effective July 2010 Meeting

Non-AU members will be charged $5 for admission to General Meetings. First-time visitors will not be charged and will receive two passes for free admission to General Meetings good for six months. The $5 admission can be applied to one’s membership if you join at that meeting.

Santa Monica Solstice Display, Charlie the Gnome, is Vandalized!
This year, Atheists United put up a playful image, a gnome with the face of Charles Darwin and the message, "Reason's Greetings from Atheists United.org." On the 22nd, a member visited the site and found "Charlie's" face had been bashed in. Atheists United President Bobbie Kirkhart noted, "Few religious people would go to such extremes to suppress alternate views, but there are always some people so insecure in their own beliefs that they cannot tolerate anyone who believes differently."

LA Times Snubs Familiarity with the Laws of Physics and Emergency Preparedness, Credits Prayer for Plane Landing In a clear case of uncreative rhetoric, LA Times mistakenly credited Prayer for the successful landing of a plane yesterday in the Hudson River . All indicators point to A Clear Understanding of the Laws of Physics, specifically the relationship of Mass and Motion, and Years of Rigorous Emergency Training that allowed the pilot to successfully make a difficult water landing and enabled the crew to quickly evacuate the many passengers. AU Joins Inauguration Suit

Atheists United of Los Angeles has become the first Southern California organization to join the lawsuit, Newdow v. Roberts, asking to prohibit prayers at President-elect Obama's inauguration. "If ever there was a person who demonstrated the wisdom of our founders in keeping the divisiveness of religion out of our united government, it is the Reverend Rick Warren," AU President Bobbie Kirkhart said.
