As summer ends and the weather cools, Atheists United will mark the Autumnal Equinox with party!

Effective July 2010 Meeting

Non-AU members will be charged $5 for admission to General Meetings. First-time visitors will not be charged and will receive two passes for free admission to General Meetings good for six months. The $5 admission can be applied to one’s membership if you join at that meeting.

Santa Monica Solstice Display, Charlie the Gnome, is Vandalized!
This year, Atheists United put up a playful image, a gnome with the face of Charles Darwin and the message, "Reason's Greetings from Atheists United.org." On the 22nd, a member visited the site and found "Charlie's" face had been bashed in. Atheists United President Bobbie Kirkhart noted, "Few religious people would go to such extremes to suppress alternate views, but there are always some people so insecure in their own beliefs that they cannot tolerate anyone who believes differently."

Charlie the Gnome Invades the Christmas Displays in Santa Monica
If you were driving down Ocean Avenue at Arizona in Santa Monica, CA you would traditionally see a line up of Christmas and Holiday displays this time of year and new this year, you will see Atheists United's Darwin Gnome, wishing all who pass "Reason's Greetings from Atheists United." This has been a dismal election season for atheists. While we were expecting the blatant religious favoritism of the 8-year Bush regime, but hoping for a return to respect for church-state separation, the Democrats decided that the best way to compete would be to one-up the religious drumming and "co-opt" (hello, Bill Clinton?) the right-wing's agenda. Outreach Tables

This past month I had two opportunities to man an outreach table for Atheists United. One was the Orange County Combined Federal Campaign Kick-Off event, and the other was the LA/Valley Pride Festival in Studio City, CA, where we showed our solidarity with the "No on 8" campaign.
