Once again Atheists United will sponsor a booth, number 994, at the annual Los Angeles Times Festival of Books. The festival will be held on the University of Southern California campus on Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22.
The festival began in 1996 with a simple goal: to bring together the people who create books with the people who love to read them. The festival was an immediate success and has become the largest and most prestigious book festival in the country, attracting more than 140,000 book lovers each year.
The Atheists United booth will host several atheist authors who will be autographing their books. The schedule is:
10-12 Janet Heimlich
12-2 Richard Carrier
2-4 Steven Paul Leiva
4-6 Betsy Salkind
10-12 – Ted Drange
12-2 – Sikivu Hutchinson
2-3 – Richard Carrier
3-4 – Steven Paul Leiva
When the public visits our booth they will find a sign-up sheet, free literature and a variety of items for sale. Atheist books, bumper emblems, lapel pins and DVDs will be on display. We will offer visitors chocolate kisses and hand out business cards and brochures.
People of all ages from across Southern California and even other parts of the country attend. It is a free ($10 for parking) public event, and includes exciting author events, storytelling, cooking demonstrations and poetry readings. The Festival of Books also includes nearly 300 exhibitor booths representing booksellers, publishers, literacy and cultural organizations selling and promoting books and book-related merchandise and distributing related information and free gifts. Many of the independent booksellers participating in the festival represent the diverse ethnic and cultural communities of Los Angeles and sell books of different languages and genres.
