Greetings Fellow AU members!

I was raised a Catholic in the Chicago burbs. 8 years of Catholic elementary school, under sexually frustrated, and therefore mean, Dominican Sisters. Once the Pope said it was now OK to eat meat on Friday, I started questioning my religion. All those poor souls burning in Hell b/c they ate meat on Friday, before this announcement. Not fair!

Anyway, how could one human being in Rome change a Universal Commandment from God Himself? I was 12 years old. I now call myself “a Joyful Atheist.” I have No Fear about some old guy in the sky who’s going to get me when I die.

As MLK said, “thank God almighty! Free at last! Free at last!” I feel that my Humanistic values just come naturally to me, and that I can be good w/o god. I hope to make whatever contribution to AU that I can by being on your Board.

Dani Hsia

Dani is the Manager of Operations at Friends of Ballona Wetlands, an environmental nonprofit dedicated to restoring the last coastal wetland in Los Angeles County. She majored in biology at CSULB and pursued a career in finance and accounting. She's been an atheist since 2013, after leaving the Baha'i Faith and connecting with humanism. She strives to live ethically and give back to the community. Dani and her husband Gabriel have raised and trained three dogs for Guide Dogs For The Blind, two of which are now working guides and one "career changed" pet who is the goodest boy. They are currently raising and training a tiny human who, when old enough, will join them in their many volunteer activities. She is excited and grateful to have the opportunity to serve the AU community

The Board would also like to congratulate Arlene Rios for winning her election for Vice President, James Nunnelley for winning his election for Treasurer, and Mark Rockoff for winning his election to Director-at-large. Arlene, James, and Mark all currently serve on the Atheists United Board but will be filling new roles in 2021 and beyond.

Arlene, James, Mark, Dani and Bill start their 2-year terms on January 1st, 2021.
