Experience this 2.3-mile loop trail near Studio City, California. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 1 h 11 min to complete. This is a very popular area for hiking, horseback riding, and running, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.
Wilacre Park has the Betty B. Dearing Trail and the U-Vanu Trail, creating a loop among the chaparral, oak woodlands, and coastal sage scrub. The trailhead off Laurel Canyon Boulevard has a large parking lot, restrooms, and drinking water. Bring plenty of water for you and the dog while on the route, and prepare for little shade.

Picnic in the Park (South Pasadena)
Join us for a family-friendly community meetup! Bring a meal, snack, or whatever, and socialize with other atheists locally. We create a pressure-free, casual environment to enjoy a secular picnic.
San Fernando Valley Meetup (Online)
YOU MUST REGISTER ON MEETUP IN ADVANCE TO BE ADMITTED TO THE ZOOM MEETING.
Our Meetup is hosted every 1st Monday and 3rd Thursday evening of the month (3rd Thursday in person and 1st Monday on Zoom). All are welcome!
🛑What to expect:
Discussion sparked by short videos about atheism, religion, science, current events, critical thinking, comedy, life hacks, health, and beyond >>> followed by moderated discussions.
🛑Meeting format:
This is a place for atheists to meet, have dinner with each other (eating on camera is ok), and network with fellow atheists, skeptics, and humanists.
A few agnostics and religious people sometimes show up and participate and they are welcome as long as they leave the dogma and proselytizing at home.
We mandate courtesy and respect to fellow attendees. First and foremost, this is a social gathering and support group for like-minded persons, not a debate club. If you're coming just to argue on matters of religion or politics, don't bother showing up, you're not going to convert anyone, and you will be asked to leave.
🛑Details:
This is a 2-hour event, but often we go overtime when the discussion and the great atmosphere it requires; or when we can't get enough of seeing familiar faces and perhaps some new ones. Feel free to stay as long or as short as you'd like.
Look out for topics posted in the discussion section and please place your own ideas, questions, or concerns in the comments and please feel free to private message any of our co-organizers by clicking on their names.
We welcome your unique point of view and add to the discussion.

About the LA Natural History Museum
We protect and share more than 35 million specimens and artifacts, the largest natural and cultural history collection in the western United States. But we also explore the nature and culture that surrounds us today, both in L.A. and the world. The Natural History Museum (NHM) occupies a special place in Los Angeles: It's one of L.A.’s oldest cultural institutions, and today, it's the anchor of an emerging cultural, educational, and entertainment hub in Exposition Park. We show off extraordinary specimens in exhibitions such as Age of Mammals, the Dinosaur Hall, the Gem and Mineral Hall, and our beloved dioramas. But in addition to sharing the history of the planet, we also explore the transformation around us right now: Becoming Los Angeles, the outdoor Nature Gardens, and the Nature Lab look at the relationship between environment and people, past and present, in L.A. In all of these experiences at the museum, whether they're inside or outside, we’re interested in the intersection of nature and culture—in L.A. and beyond.
About Michelle Vanegas:
Born and raised in Southern California, Michelle first discovered her love for science while attending Pasadena City College, where she decided to pursue a career in science education. In 2017, she graduated from California State University, Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Science with an emphasis in geology. She has 10 years of experience working as a science educator at free-choice learning institutions, and she is currently a faculty member at Cal State L.A. teaching earth & space science and physical science in the Natural Science Program. Michelle has a Master of Science in environmental science researching rockfish morphology and speciation.
What is Science Sundays?
Launched in 2021, Science Sundays are seasonal science trips designed to bring people together to explore and celebrate the impact of science on our world. We tour museums, labs, and natural wonders around LA with the best and brightest science communicators available.

Religion, Democracy, & the 2024 Elections
2024 is the first presidential election since the January 6th insurrection, raising important questions about what will happen in the days and months after election day on November 5th. Will we have a peaceful transfer of power? Will there be legal and/or illegal attempts to change election outcomes? Given the deep and wide role of religion in our public square — and the Insurrection — what role will religious communities play in fomenting anti-democratic movements and mobilizing pro-democracy coalitions? This event will gather an illustrious group of scholars and leaders to help process what happened — and prepare for what's next.
Sponsored by Americans United For Separation of Church and State and USC Knight Program in Media and Religion.

Andrew Seidel Book Reading at Heretic House
Join Atheists United for an intimate book reading with author and activist, Andrew Seidel!
His newest book, American Crusade: How the Supreme Court is Weaponizing Religious Freedom, was just released in September and examines some of the key Supreme Court cases of the last thirty years and how a hallowed legal protection, freedom of religion, has been turned into a tool to advance privilege and impose religion on others. This is a meticulously researched and deeply insightful account of our political landscape with a foreword provided by noted constitutional scholar Erwin Chemerinsky, author of The Case Against the Supreme Court.
Limit capacity venue. Get tickets before they run out.

For others, SMART is helpful primarily because they learn new ways of thinking about themselves and their behavior.
Although we have science-based ideas for you to consider, no one will tell you what to do. Our slogan is “Discover the Power of Choice.” For many SMART is a combination of a new community and new ways of thinking. You can be involved with SMART in whatever way you want to. We look forward to your participation.
