Atheist Street Pirates pass more milestones

Atheist Street Pirates—our program that maps and removes religious litter—has spotted over 6,150 illegally-placed religious signs since the program began three years ago, and removed 3,152!

Overall numbers from the fourth quarter of 2024 (election time) show a steady rise in illegally-posted signs compared to past quarters.

But Street Pirates continue to expand as well! We now have 130 pirates operating in 24 states + Canada! Last quarter, we also celebrated our first plunders in the states of Illinois, New York, and Washington.

“Jesus Saves" and "Jesus Is Coming, Repent" signs contribute the bulk plundered, with 249 removed the last quarter alone.

SoCal pirates are taking down signs within a few days after they’re spotted.

We also had our first atheist plunders—a "Gods Aren't Real" sticker stuck over a Jesus sign in Georgia (above), and another reading "Cthulhu Is Coming… Hide!" Volunteers also covered up graffiti on a Los Angeles bridge reading “No God.”

We also continue to track the activity of a handful of evangelizers that produce the majority of the offending signs.

A hearty "thanks" to all Street Pirates who continue to put in the volunteer effort to secure our secular rights and keep our shared public spaces free of religious rubbish!

Want to continue supporting this program? Save the date for our next Atheist Street Pirates Art Party, May 3rd at CFI West!
