LA Times names Atheists United one of the city’s top 7 “quirky” social groups
Looking to make friends? L.A. Times recently echoed something we’ve been saying for years: that joining a community is good for your physical, emotional, and psychological health.
What’s more is that they named us on a list of 7 quirky social clubs
“Many of us find that once we join a group we get more responsibility and we feel we are needed, and that gives us a sense of purpose,” said Sam Pressler, a fellow at University of Virginia who studies social connection. “That’s a critical piece.”
The Times described us as a “welcoming space for people who don’t believe in God […] a kind of religious community without the religion.”
That’s the second time the Times has given us a shout-out. The first was around this time last year, highlighting our annual camping trip.
The article highlighted our Science Sunday tours, speaker series, choir, beach party, Hollywood rooftop party, and food distribution programs.
