We’re stepping up our advocacy game
Atheists United has been busy ramping up our advocacy and charity operations. We want to keep you in the loop:
We just got a $500 grant for our monthly food distribution while attending the American Atheists National Convention. This helps compensate for the dissolution of a major granter this fall, which had previously guaranteed the program $3,600 annually. AU and allies have been making a big push to find a new granter from within the secular community. (You can contribute here.)
While at the conference, we also helped pack over 25,000 meals!
Our food distribution gave out over 6,000 pounds of groceries last month. That's over double our usual impact and a new record for us!
Our Board and Executive Director are attending meetings of Public School Defenders Hub, which provides resources and training to counter anti-public school extremism. AU members can join us for trainings on keeping schools secular at PSDH's upcoming summit on April 8th 1-4pm in Santa Ana. (Register here by Friday.)
We joined the Interfaith Power and Light Coalition, which organizes religious and nonreligious communities to take action on climate change.
We’re going to the Americans United for Separation of Church and State Summit for Religious Freedom in Washington DC, where we'll meet face-to-face with members of Congress and staff to talk about separation of church and state.
Our Executive Director and a board member were in Sacramento in March working with our national partners Unchained at Last, American Atheists and Secular Student Alliance to push to end legalized child marriage in California.
Our Board has established a permanent Advocacy Committee to prioritize advocacy in 2024.
Social and political change is a game of building coalitions and participating in collective actions like this across California and the US. This takes time, travel, donors, and members.
If this is the kind of work you’d like us to continue building upon, we need your financial support! Donate, become a member, or attend our next major community event to keep us moving forward!
